Martinus Johannes de Jongh was born 31 January 1885 in Amsterdam and died 17 July in Bloemfontein, South Africa.
He was married to Maria Verhoef and they had three children, Wilhelmina, Gabriel and Petronella.
They emigrated to South Africa in !921.
Tinus had been developing a palet-knife technique to convey greater emphasis on luminous light and to capture ruggedness of the scenery.
Some of his best landscape work was done in 1938 in and around the Cederberg area.
He was one of South Africas most popular painters.
