Ronald Martin West was born in Stellenbosch, Western Cape, in 1974. Since childhood, Ronald has shown a keen interest in art. His formal art training only began in high school, when he joined the PJ Oliver Art Centre from 1989 to 1992, with sculpture as his main subject. In 1993 he attended a course at the Cape Graphic Design Department.
His rapid development has been made possible by his commitment to and understanding of the language of art. Ronald’s work employs vibrant colour with dynamic figures, capturing his fascination with the humour, intimacy and expressiveness of people in street scenes.
Ronald was selected to represent South Africa at the Saffafair Festival 2004 in London and his paintings were used for the “Fat Ladies” wine label series. Ronald’s work can be found in leading galleries across South Africa, abroad and in many corporate and private collections both locally and internationally.
If you are already a collector of Ronald’s work, or if you are a first time viewer, know that you will enjoy this, his most recent work; lively, colourful and above all very personal.
